BLAK RUST textiles are created by blending contemporary art aesthetics with 7th century Japanese shibori silk painting techniques. The emphasis is on hand-made/high-quality, fine art, tradition and timelessness. Base products are luxury silk stoles and scarves that we view as wearable one-of-a-kind pieces of contemporary art.
BLAK RUST HOME is shibori meets contemporary art meets high tech. Hand-dyed custom colorways and patterns are reproduced on print-to-order textiles for apparel, upholstery, and wallcoverings.
I founded BLAK RUST upon my return to my native Pittsburgh after 20+ years of contemporary art world experience and 15 years of art and cultural production in Italy. The objective is a highly unique collection of textile patterns to sell to fashion and home decor markets ranging from the traditional to the distinctly edgy in nature that are elegantly transgressive – a display of chic irreverence – which all the while are steeped in a design discourse with textile and art history by lending an aesthetic evolution to time-honored motifs.
